Convention News: History of Mystery session - PAUL FREEMAN on ‘The Poster, the Printer, the Performer: the Story of an Iconic Poster’
Paul Freeman recalls how 74 years ago a war-time purchase he made from Will Goldston’s shop was wrapped in a poster depicting Servais Le Roy, the Monarch of Mystery, levitating his partner Talma. This beautiful poster was printed by the famous Hamburg firm founded in 1872 by Adolph Friedlander, of which company Paul outlines a brief history. The final section of the talk focuses on the wonderful Asrah illusion, the subject of the poster, and provides a biographical survey of Le Roy’s career, culminating with his final disastrous stage performance in New York.

If any International Brotherhood of Magicians British Ring members happen to have copies of the Budget magazine from 1995 to 1998 hanging around anywhere, that would fill a huge hole in the website - issues after 1998 are MOSTLY online - there is a "missing copy" image where I haven't got the magazine to scan. Also, nearly all of 2005 (apart from April) is currently missing. On the plus side, we are now at 300 copies, which is a fair chunk of magazines to re-read! ...
